Kitchen Remodel is D.O.N.E.

Blue and white kitchen cabinets = Beautiful!

Have you ever been involved in a kitchen remodel? Or any remodel? It’s so exciting to start. It’s so messy in the middle that you wonder why you decided to tackle this project.

Then, after the remodel is done, you hear the choir of angels and think… Oh. Em. Geee. it’s perfect.

Well, that is me right now. I am so happy with the end result. Our kitchen was giving off a major 1978-vibe and was literally falling apart in places.

The kitchen remodel is done

Now that the remodel is over I can say this was a good choice and so worth the mess and headaches (and CO$T).

I have had this vision for our kitchen in my head since about 2 weeks after we moved in.

The kitchen is small, so some edits were not possible (without the MAJOR cost of moving walls) so we kept the original layout.

It is so fun to cook in there now!

Blue and white kitchen cabinets

This isn’t one of those DIY stories where Chip and Jo conquer on their own with hammers in hand and it’s done in 48 minutes. We had contractors for the labor part. We got our cabinets at Menards here in town (I do love them!). Even though I got funny looks when I told people they were blue on the bottom and white on the top.

Did you see the before shots?

This kitchen screamed the 1970s to me. We often referred to it as a dark, sad kitchen. Here are a few shots but be sure to check out how I designed this new look at this previous blog post. Gotta love all that wood.

What’s my favorite part?

Counter Close up view

We really do love it all now that’s it done. I would have to say my favorite part besides the blue and white kitchen cabinet combo is the granite we picked.

Check it out….

The gray tones accent the blue and white cabinets amazingly. Love it.

This slab was called ‘Snowflake’. I almost went with something else! So thankful I didn’t. The little bits of shimmer flakes make this countertop beautiful! Thanks Heim Granite!

To backsplash or not to backsplash

I almost didn’t do a fun tile backsplash. Can you imagine?? haha

The kitchen is so small already that I didn’t want it to look cluttered. And the local shops all had the same skinny/slats style of tile when I did my remodel. Although I liked the look, I couldn’t see it in my tiny little kitchen.

Subway tile was popular now too, but that didn’t go with the style of our house even though I LOVE that look. So, the original plan was to paint it and do 3″ granite for the backsplash.

Then, one afternoon in Lowe’s I came across this beauty. Don’t you just love it??

And the best part? It was $1.90 a sheet! (Yes, you read that right! a sheet, not per tile). Less than $33 for all the tiles in my kitchen …. say it with me: SCORE!!! Plus I just love that lantern shape. I even used it on my marketing planner for entrepreneurs cover in 2020.

The decor part is so fun!

Now that the sheetrock dust has settled, the noise is finally done (and my cat can calm down) it’s finally time to decorate my blue and white kitchen. YAY! I think we can all agree this is the fun part of the remodel.

Our kitchen layout doesn’t leave much space for wall decor. We only have this one little wall to add fun things or to make DIYs to hang up in there.

Cute shelf from Hobby Lobby!

I think these fake tulips add the perfect pop of color here to the blue and white cabinets. not to mention I do love tulips!

We all love a good farmhouse-looking candle stick these days. These basic wood ones were from Big Lots and so reasonably priced! I do believe no kitchen is complete these days out with some fake lemons somewhere too. Right?

What’s next for this creative girl?

Now that this is done, I want to add some shelves in a bathroom next…. See that here.

And of course, I’m still designing SVGs for the shop and connecting with other creative owners through my planner.

  2. Wow, that is gorgeous! A kitchen remodel is on our list of things we want/need to do. And our layout is very similar to yours. I love the way you did white on the top and blue on the bottom. I’m still trying to determine what colors I want to use…I keep changing my mind, lol!

    1. Thanks Toni! It didn’t have much room for creative layout ideas but we are all loving it. Thanks for the kind words!

    1. Thanks, Tammy! If you do try to make lots of freezer meals (crockpot ones are the best) to help with the mess during the remodel.

  3. OMG! LOVE the tile! It all looks so beautiful!!! How did the side with the fridge turn out? I have the same problem with chips needing the cupboard space!

    1. OMGosh! I totally forgot those. I’ll update the post this week. Thanks for letting me know (Cause that side is pretty dang cute now)

  4. I refinished kitchen cabinets and color consulted since 2013! Your blue and white looks great I love the tile backsplash. So many people are afraid to do anything other than traditional so it’s lovely to see you did your own thing! You’ll be really happy you did!

  5. Your new kitchen is lovely, Chelly! I wish I had went with granite when we had our house rebuilt. The laminate counter tops are a pain to clean, lol!
