What Makes A Good Logo for your Brand
If you’re reading this, you probably already know your business needs a logo. Besides making advertising tasks easier, having a good logo for your brand will also…
- Present your business as a professional business
- Creates trust in your customer’s minds
- Is the base of the foundation for a cohesive look for your brand
- Saves you time in marketing with a set brand
- Helps the right customer find YOU!
I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea. A logo is a good business decision.
You’ve decided to get a professional logo designed. Now What?
I hear this a lot on my free logo consultation calls … “I’m ready for a logo, now what do I do or need to start?”
The key to a GREAT logo is finding a designer who understands branding – Your Brand!
Why? A logo design is not just about a cute graphic and adorable font. They both need to mean something to your company.
Your logo will set the tone of your business in the eyes of your new customers. This can mean it might make or break your next sale.
- A great logo will tell them who you are and what you represent.
- A great logo speaks for your brand.
- A great will help you stand out from all those others doing similar things as your business
- A great logo will attract more of your perfect clients
What Does a Good Logo Contain?
Your graphic designer should be asking all the things about your business before they begin to make a logo. Who your business is now and where it might go in the future is the vision you want to showcase in your brand in your logo.
The graphic designer needs to get into your head with every detail about your business, and its the vision to serve your customers.
This will create a great logo for YOUR business.
You should be able to answer these two questions:
- Do the fonts create the feeling of what you do?
- Does the graphics set a tone for your business’s style?
- Farmhouse
- Modern Chic
- Cheery & Bright
- Professional Business Coaching
If it doesn’t showcase your business with these two elements – it’s a graphic and not a great logo. Time for a facelift or a redo (reach out, I can help!).
What if your name does not showcase what you offer?
If your name isn’t exactly clear about what you do for your customers, this is where a great logo will help make you money.
Your logo’s design should be a reflection of what you do.
Your brand needs to speak to your customers and attract the right people, building an audience that wants what you offer, not just fluffing the numbers of followers.
Mistakes when designing a logo
Often people design their own and add their own personal drive to the business logo. This is not your brand, it’s your personal drive. Be sure to define each of them.
I’ll explain that a little more… if you named your business after a loved one who inspires you or you did this to honor them. Then you design a logo after something they enjoyed. For example, a client of mine named her business after her grandfather, who inspired her to take a leap and start this adventure. She made beautiful wreaths, but the logo reflected his name and had his love of fly fishing in the graphics.
This confuses your customers. Does she only make wreaths for fly fishers? (She did not, she made beautiful wreaths for every season and theme.) She changed her name, and we made a professional wreath-themed logo, and she’s doing amazing now. She’s attracting more customers to buy her wreaths!

This is a great question but not a short answer. I think this graph helps a lot. You can learn all about branding, and marketing to your customers, with my ebook, Branding and Marketing for Creatives.
