Changing colors on SVGs

Have you ever downloaded an SVG and wished the color layout was different? Let’s have a quick chat about changing colors on SVGs in Cricut’s Design Space to customize your next craft project.

We’ll use this Game Day SVG for an example. If you’re a quick crafter like me, you only want to use one color of vinyl to get done fast. (I can’t be the only one). Most of the time I go for the quick DIYs and crafts.

Or maybe you want to take this one and edit the colors to match the favorite team at your kids’ school. It doesn’t matter what color you see in Design Space, but I am a visual person and I like to have them the same to help me put the right color on the mat when cutting.

Either way, it’s good to know how to change colors on SVGs in Cricut‘s Design Space.

Changing colors on SVGs in Design Space

Import the SVG into the Design Space, or use one of their images in Cricut’s library. We uploaded our Game Day SVG, it gives you the option for 2 DAY words – we’re using the one cut out to match up to the GAME word. The second one layers over or under the word GAME.

Select the Game Day image, you’ll select the black and pink words of this image together.

  • If you want both words the same color, move to the next step after selecting the image.
  • To change the colors, click UNGROUP for the image, if it’s not already. (Upper Right Panel).

To change SVG colors of a selected item

After ungrouping, select the part of the image that you want to change the color of. We selected DAY for an example here. Next click the color icon on the top menu, by Operation.

Find the new color you want and click it. This changes what you have selected.

I also changed the word GAME to a blue color to show you how easy it can be to change SVGs colors.

This is also a good place to edit if you want to change something to a pen for writing or to the scoring tool for embossing. This is going to be a vinyl cutout, so we are only changing the colors of the SVG file in Design Space.

That’s it. That’s how easy it is to change the colors of an SVG file in Design Studio. All that’s left for this SVG is to click the green Make It button.

You can see here how the color we picked shows up as the same color of the mat. I love this to keep me organized when cutting.
